Our Accomplishments

In 2007, WCO unveiled the Public Health Toolkit: Developing Optometry’s Leadership in Eye and Vision Care Solutions to increase optometrists’ awareness, capacity and participation in VISION 2020: The Right to Sight.

WCO’s charitable foundation is a founding member of Optometry Giving Sight (OGS), the only global fundraising initiative that specifically targets the prevention of blindness due to refractive error and to help those with permanent low vision. At the end of 2007, OGS will have allocated $1,000,000 to projects in Africa, Sri Lanka, East Timor and Indigenous Australia.

WCO addresses substantive issues affecting optometric education via the World Conference on Optometric Education. The 2006 program attracted 250 attendees from 45 countries.

WCO’s Fellowship Programme has sent 39 fellows to 18 countries. The fellows volunteered their time and expertise to assist with teaching, curriculum development, faculty development, research, clinical care and public policy formation.
