International Optometrist of the Year Award
The World Council of Optometry is inviting nominations for the 2010 International Optometrist of the Year Award. This prestigious award is given to an optometrist who has shown outstanding commitment, both to the profession and the community at large. Previous recipients of the International Optometrist of the Year award come from countries as far apart as the Philippines, Australia, Nigeria, Canada, New Zealand, South Africa, Norway and the United States - but they all share an outstanding commitment to optometry and to the advancement of eye and vision welfare in the community at large.
Nominations for the award may be made by members of the 86 WCO member organisations, both affiliate and associate members, which make up the 46 countries represented in the World Council of Optometry. The nomination form may be downloaded from the WCO website www.worldoptometry.org. The closing date for nomination is 31 May 2010
The selection Panel for the International Optometrists of the Year Award is chaired by Mrs Tone Garaas-Maurdalen, President Elect of the World Council of Optometry. The International Optometrist of the Year Award will be presented at the WCO Governing Board meeting in Durban, September 21st 2010.
Mrs Tone Garaas-Maurdalen is proud to be involved in the International Optometrists of the Year Award. “Many thousands of optometrists throughout the world are committed to providing high quality eye and vision care and also contributing the development of the optometry profession. This Award gives an opportunity to recognise and celebrate that commitment and also to publicise the role of optometry across the world today”.
