WORLD COUNCIL OF OPTOMETRY ANNOUNCES EDUCATION CONFERENCE

The World Council of Optometry (WCO) today announced the Sixth World Conference on Optometric Education (WCOE6) will be held on 22nd – 24th September 2010 in Durban, South Africa.  WCOE6 will run alongside the International Centre for Eyecare Education (ICEE) Refractive Error Conference, which takes place from 20th  – 22nd September 2010.

Meeting every four years, WCOE6 will bring together optometric educators from WCO’s 80 member organisations in 45 countries around the world to openly discuss and debate curricular issues, practice modes and methods of teaching.

Building on the success of the 2006 event in Milan, the Durban conference will address the current optometric education issues and initiatives, and will disseminate global standards of education. The timely opportunities for mutual cooperation in pedagogical design, research and implementation will benefit optometry globally.

Caroline Hyde-Price, WCO Executive Director said “WCOE is the driving force for optometric educational advancement and initiatives. We are delighted to be holding the event alongside the ICEE refractive error conference, in the sophisticated cosmopolitan city of Durban, the largest city in the KwaZulu-Natal province of South Africa and home of South Africa’s busiest port.  The 2010 event promises to deliver a stimulating and diverse programme and it will be a great opportunity to share global views surrounding optometric education.”

Further information and details of the conference programme will be available via the WCO website www.worldoptometry.org, by email: laura.prieto@worldoptometry.org,  or telephone +44 (0)20 7766 4381.
