World Council of Optometry registered as a charity in the UK
The World Council of Optometry has been registered as charity number 1133429 by the Charity Commission with effect from 31 December 2009.
The Charity Commission for England and Wales is established by law as the regulator and registrar of charities in England and Wales. It regulates charities in order to increase charities’ efficiency and effectiveness and public confidence and trust in them.
The World Council of Optometry will be required to send a copy of its accounts and annual report to the Charity Commission.
In July 2008, the secretariat of the World Council of Optometry moved from the Pennsylvania College of Optometry to the College of Optometrists in London. The World Council of Optometry was certified as a private limited company with Companies House on 1st July 2009.
Professor George Woo, President of the World Council of Optometry said “I am delighted that the World Council of Optometry has been registered as a charity with the Charity Commission. With a growing membership of 86 member organisations from 48 countries, the World Council of Optometry is the global voice for the optometry professionals”.
