WCO Announces New Executive Director

The World Council of Optometry (WCO) is pleased to announce the appointment of Caroline Hyde-Price as its new Executive Director.

Caroline has an extensive and distinguished career in the health sector, and will be joining the WCO from the Health Protection Agency where she held the post as Head of International Office for the past four and a half years. In this role, Caroline established and co-ordinated the international activities of this independent government body. Specific successes included securing a £1.9m (GDP) grant for international development, establishing its strategy and business planning processes, and developing collaborative partnerships around the world. Prior to that Caroline was Head of International Affairs at the Royal College of Nursing. Caroline has both a first degree in International Politics and an MBA and after training as a nurse, she moved into health services management, where she focused on developing and leading on health related initiatives within key UK organisations.

Commenting on the appointment Bob Chappell, WCO President said “I am delighted that Caroline will be joining the WCO as Executive Director. Caroline brings with her a wealth of knowledge and experience. Her previous work involving public health issues, commissioning, strategy and international relations and will be a great asset to the WCO. It is an exciting time for optometry and I look forward to working with Caroline to develop WCO’s network and influence across the globe.”

Caroline will be travelling to Melaka, Malaysia in June as part of the General Delegates Meeting, and will join the WCO formally in July.
