   The World Council of Optometry (WCO) has today announced that its annual International Optometrist of the Year Award is to be post-humously awarded to Dr Tom Little, who was killed whilst leading a humanitarian health mission in Nuristan province, Afghanistan.

   The Japan Optometric and Optical Association have donated 500,000 yen to the World Optometry Foundation to support the activities of the World Council of Optometry.

7. Earthquake in Haiti

   The World Council of Optometry will be working with eye and vision charities and associations to advocate for the inclusion of eye and vision care in the planning and delivery of health services following the earthquake in Haiti.

8. World Council of Optometry registered as a charity in the UK

   11 January 2010

   The World Council of Optometry has been registered as charity number 1133429 by the Charity Commission with effect from 31 December 2009.
