Diabetic Retinopathy (DR) affects 1 in 3 persons with Diabetes Mellitus (DM) and is a leading cause of vision loss in working adult populations. By 2025 almost 600 million people may be living with diabetes. World Diabetes Day takes place on the 14th November every year and is the worlds largest diabetes awareness campaign led by the International Diabetes Federation.

The World Council of Optometry (WCO) has announced the recipients of three prestigious international awards recognising outstanding contributions to optometry. The announcement was made during the WCO/FEDEPTO 1st World Congress of Optometry, 14 16 August in Medellin in Colombia.

e recent earthquakes in Nepal have left more than 8800 people dead and 23,000 injured. There has also been catastrophic damage to infrastructure and property. Many people have lost or broken their glasses and the significant amount of dust has caused or exacerbated eye and vision problems.
